Delta Police Promise Safe, Secure Yuletide Celebration

BY JOELSON EBOH

THE Delta State Police Command, led by Commissioner of Police (CP) Olufemi Abaniwonda, has unveiled extensive security measures to guarantee a peaceful and secure Christmas season across the state.

In a press release, the CP assured residents of maximum protection during the festivities, with massive deployment of personnel to critical locations. Police patrol teams from Dragon Patrol, Safer Highways, Quick Response Squad, and other tactical units have been stationed across key routes, including the Asaba-Onitsha Head Bridge, Anwai Campus Gate, and Onicha Ugbo to Idumuje-Ugboko, among others.

According to him, security presence has been intensified in flashpoints across Asaba, including Summit Junction, Ogbe-Ogonogo Market, and Federal Medical Centre Roundabout. Similarly, officers from Ekpan and Ebrumede Divisions have been tasked with maintaining order in Warri’s busy DSC and Effurun Roundabouts.

The Command also deployed marine police to Escravos, Burutu, and Warri waterways to counter piracy and illegal bunkering, ensuring the safety of travellers and traders. Traffic management has been prioritized at the Asaba Head Bridge and other busy intersections, with dedicated teams assigned to ease congestion.

To boost public confidence, CP Abaniwonda has mandated a continuous “Operation Show of Force” across Delta State from December 22, 2024. This initiative underscores the Command’s readiness to thwart criminal activities and ensure public safety throughout the festive season.

Residents were urged to remain law-abiding and vigilant, with the CP reiterating the Command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property. He extended warm Christmas wishes to Deltans and Nigerians at large, emphasizing the importance of community cooperation in crime prevention.

The statement, signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Edafe Bright, highlights the Command’s determination to deliver a safe and joyful Yuletide for all.
