IN a bid to improve living conditions of students, the Delta State Government has distributed food items to model schools in the state. They are located in Ughelli, Sapele, Warri and Evwreni.
It was gathered that the initiative is part of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s educational support for students besides making them academically empowered. The state government assured that it is out to enhance nutritional intake of students to enhance their learning abilities.
The distribution, which took place at several locations, was warmly received by the school authorities of Government College Ughelli; Chude’s Girls Sapele; Nana College Warri; and Girls Model School Evwreni. The distribution was carried out by the Commissioner for Secondary Education, Mrs. Rose Ezewu.
The food items, according to Mrs. Ezewu, including staples such as rice, beans, and other essential provisions, were delivered to ensure students have access to nutritious meals at school.
She emphasized the state government’s commitment to improving both the educational and welfare standards in Delta’s schools by providing nutritious food that will boost students’ academic performance and overall well-being.
“A hungry child cannot concentrate. We want to eliminate this barrier and give our students the best possible conditions to thrive,” Ezewu stated.
The selected model schools were recognized as educational institutions of excellence within the state, and the government hopes this initiative will further inspire students and teachers to maintain the high standards for which they are known.
In her remarks, one of the beneficiaries, the Principal of Chude Girls’ Model Secondary School, Mrs Ukasare Uzuazo expressed gratitude for the government’s continued support. “This is a wonderful gesture from the state government. These food items will go a long way in ensuring our students stay focused and motivated,” she said.
