Delta state government has ranked 8th place in the third quarter of the State Fiscal Transparency League Table by BudgIt.
This achievement is due to the state’s dedication to openness, accountability and fiscal transparency in its financial management.
According to Pius Okocha, Delta State Coordinator for budgIT, a non-profit organization that advocates for transparency and accountability in public finance. “This ranking is a testament to the progress made by the Delta State government in promoting fiscal transparency” he said.
“We commend the Delta state government for its efforts and encourage continued improvement in areas such as budget documentation, statutory reports, and e-procurement.”
Delta State’s notable achievements in fiscal transparency include high scores in key areas such as:
Medium-Term Expenditure Framework: providing a clear roadmap for the state’s expenditure priorities
Revenue reporting: ensuring accurate and timely reporting of revenue.
Audit processes: maintaining robust audit processes to ensure accountability.
Fiscal data availability: providing easy access to fiscal data for citizens.
While Delta State has made significant progress, there are areas for improvement. These include: Comprehensive and timely budget documentation, Improving the timeliness of statutory reports, Upgrading the e-procurement portal to provide current and accessible information.
Okocha emphasized the importance of continued improvement, stating that “as an organization, we believe that fiscal transparency is essential for promoting good governance and ensuring that citizens receive the best possible services”.
