The Delta State Traditional Medicine Board has announced the dissolution of its taskforce on fake and counterfeit herbal drugs
Also dissolve is the Screening Committee of the Board charged with the responsibility of determining the qualification and suitability of herbal medicine practitioners.
The Chairman of the Board, Dr. Ogbogodor Ogumu, who announced this at the inaugural meeting of the board in Asaba, however, said all the documents, certificates abd licenses issued by the Executive Secretary would remain valid till 31st December, 2024.
Dr. Ogumu said the taskforce and screening committee would soon be reconstituted, adding that the board would, in the coming days, roll out measures to reposition traditional medicine practice in the state to make it more relevant to the healthcare system and by extension the MORE Agenda of the Oborevwori administration.
The board chairman warned that illegal practice would no longer be condoned and called on anyone engaged in traditional medicine business to register with the Board and be issued with the necessary operational documents, while warning women parading themselves as ‘Eze Nwanyi’ to desist or face sanctions
He solicited the support and cooperation of board members and staff, stressing that they should be committed to achieving set goals
In their separate remarks, Dr. Faith Odis and Chief Dr. Ezekiel Alighomire, thanked Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for finding them worthy to serve and promised to commit to the success of the Board.
They pledged to work as a team in the collective effort to actualize the MORE Agenda of the Oborevwori administration, adding that the board would encourage practitioners to focus on their fields of specialization.
The inaugural meeting was attended by members of the board from across the three senatorial districts.
