Deltans Bemoan Non-Compliance To Fuel Price Reduction By Dealers

…Also, Decry Adulterated PMS

BY KASE GREATNESS

Fuel prices in Nigeria have experienced a slight decline, providing much-needed relief to consumers struggling with high costs.

They, however, bemoaned the non-compliance to the downward review of petrol price and the dispensing of adulterated fuel by some filling stations.

The new pricing reflects a reduction of approximately five percent from previous rates, alleviating some of the financial strain on households and businesses still recovering from inflation and rising living expenses.

Analysts believe the decrease could positively impact transportation costs and overall market prices, potentially stimulating economic activity in the coming weeks.

A visit by The Pointer to several filling stations in Asaba revealed significant competition among marketers, with prices ranging from ₦1,020 to ₦1,070 per liter.

This marks a considerable drop from last year’s rates, which were as high as ₦1,200 and ₦1,500 per liter. The reduction has brought smiles to many, particularly commercial transporters.

In an interview, a tricycle driver (popularly known as “keke napep”), Mr. Nnamdi Paul, acknowledged the slight price drop but noted that some filling stations still charge higher rates.

He expressed concern over the quality of fuel, saying, “Some stations sell adulterated products, leading to excessive fuel consumption. At times, I suspect the pump attendant sold me less fuel than I paid for.”

Another respondent, Mr. James, highlighted ongoing issues at the pumps, mentioning that many stations are not complying with the new prices, resulting in long queues at those selling for ₦980 per liter.

He lamented: “If I wait in line for cheaper fuel, I risk losing a day’s earnings, so I often have to settle for more expensive options.”

He urged the government to implement measures to enforce compliance among all filling stations, ensuring a fair pricing for consumers.
