Deltans Bemoan Non-Compliance With Fuel Price Reduction

…Condemn Adulterated PMS

BY KASE GREATNESS

DESPITE a slight decrease in the price of fuel, providing much-needed relief around the country, Deltans have bemoaned non-compliance by many filling stations.

The new price reflects a reduction of approximately five percent from the previous rate, alleviating some of the financial strain on households and businesses still saddled with the harsh economic realities in the country.

Analysts believe the decrease could positively impact transportation costs and overall market prices, potentially stimulating economic activity in the coming weeks.

But a visit by The Pointer to several filling stations in Asaba revealed that prices ranged from ₦1,020 to ₦1,070 per liter.

Although this marks a considerable drop from last year’s rates, which were as high as ₦1,200 and ₦1,500 per litre, in an interview, a tricycle driver (popularly known as keke napep), Mr. Nnamdi Paul, acknowledged the slight price drop but noted that some filling stations still charge higher rates.

He also expressed concern over the quality of fuel, saying, “some filling stations sell adulterated products, leading to excessive fuel consumption. At times, I suspect the pump attendants sold me less fuel than I actually paid for.”

Another respondent, Mr. James, highlighted ongoing issues at the pumps, mentioning that many stations are not complying with the new prices, resulting in long queues at those filling stations selling for ₦980 per liter.

He lamented: “If I wait on the queue for cheaper fuel, I risk losing a day’s earnings, so I often have to settle for more expensive options.”

He urged the NNPC to implement measures to enforce compliance among filling stations, ensuring fair pricing for consumers.
