DIRECTOR-General of Delta State Traffic Management Authority (DESTMA), Hon. Benjamin Okiemute, has urged two key state agencies to join forces with it in addressing traffic safety challenges. He made the call, when his agency paid an official visit to the General manager, Delta State Broadcasting Service (DBS) Mrs. Christiana Jobome- Emetulu and the Director-General Delta State Orientation Bureau (DSOB) Dr. Fred Oghenesivbe to collaborate on strategies aimed at fostering better road practices and ensuring the safety of residents.
Hon. Okiemute emphasized the critical need for a unified approach to tackle the challenges posed by increasing vehicular traffic and road safety concerns. He highlighted the potential of a partnership between DBS and DSOB in creating widespread awareness through targeted educational campaigns and consistent dissemination of traffic safety information.
The Director-General underlined the importance of leveraging the strengths of both agencies. DBS, with its wide media reach, could play a pivotal role in broadcasting traffic advisories, educating drivers, and keeping the public informed about road safety protocols. Meanwhile, DSOB, known for its grassroots engagement, could complement this effort by organizing orientation programs, community meetings, and sensitization activities to promote safe road use among citizens.
In his remarks, the Board Chairman of DESTMA, Chief Peter Idion, appealed to two key agencies to support and strengthen DESTMA’s activities by providing extensive media coverage through radio programs, jingles, and documentaries. He stressed the need to sensitize road users and Deltans on traffic regulations to enhance safety across the state.
Addressing the agency, the General Manager of DBS, Mrs. Christiana Jobome-Emetulu, commended the initiative and pledged her full support to DESTMA. She emphasized that DBS’s mission aligns with the MORE Agenda of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.
“We are committed to promoting and providing a safe environment for Deltans. I assure you that we will bring your activities to the public’s attention, especially at the grassroots level,” she said.
Similarly, the Director-General of DSOB, Dr. Fred Oghenesivbe, lauded DESTMA’s management for their dedication to maintaining effective traffic management in the state.
He pledged his commitment to working collaboratively with the agency, noting that the partnership reflects a shared vision of prioritizing the well-being of residents and fostering a safer, more orderly traffic system across Delta State.
