The Director-General of the Delta State Traffic Management Authority (DESTMA), Hon. Benjamin Okiemute has pledged the agency’s support to the Odumu-Ogala community in Ika South Local Government Area, Delta State, reaffirming its commitment to addressing traffic congestion and ensuring the safety of road users.
He made this promise during a visit by the Vice Chairman of the Idumu-Ogala Community, Mr. Kingsley Aliemeke, along with his Assistant Secretary, Mr. Osas Iyeke, and Public Relations Officer (PRO), Mr. Nduka Alika, at the DESTMA Zonal Command in Agbor.
According to Okiemute, the agency is dedicated to improving traffic flow and minimizing road hazards. He expressed DESTMA’s willingness to collaborate with local leaders and residents to find effective solutions to the community’s traffic challenges.
He emphasized that local participation was essential in maintaining order and ensuring safer roads, adding that DESTMA will work closely with the community to implement necessary traffic management measures.
The Director-General assured the delegation that officers would be deployed to monitor and regulate traffic, while also educating road users on best practices to prevent avoidable accidents.
In response, the Vice Chairman of the Idumu Ogala Community, Mr. Kingsley Aliemeke, commended the Director-General for his dedication to ensuring the safety of Deltans and other road users.
While acknowledging DESTMA’s efforts, he appealed for the provision of reflective signboards, assistance in directing traffic, and increased sensitization of residents on the dangers of over speeding.
He noted that rising traffic congestion in the area has led to frequent gridlocks and safety concerns, making DESTMA’s intervention a timely and much-needed development.
Expressing optimism, he stated that the agency’s support would bring significant relief to motorists and pedestrians, ultimately improving road conditions and safety within the community.
