DESTMA Transfers 30 Officers To Udu Zone

…Creates New Traffic Beats In Warri, Uvwie

THE Director-General of the Delta State Traffic Management Authority (DESTMA), Hon. Benjamin Okiemute, has ordered the transfer of 30 officers from Ughelli zonal command to Udu zonal command Area as part of strategic efforts to improve upon the core mandate of the agency in the area.

The directive was issued during an official visit by DESTMA’s management team to Ughelli and Udu Zonal Commands.

The transfer, according to Okiemute, aligns with the Agency’s broader strategy to strengthen traffic control measures and increase manpower in key locations across the state, emphasizing the need for efficient deployment of personnel to areas experiencing high traffic pressure and low manpower.

He noted that Udu has witnessed a surge in both commercial and private transportation activities, making it necessary for DESTMA to intensify its presence in the area.

Okiemute further stressed that the transferred officers would be responsible for enforcing traffic regulations, ensuring the smooth flow of vehicles, and sensitizing road users on safe driving practices, while urging them to carry out their duties diligently, upholding professionalism and fairness in their approach to traffic management.

In a separate development, the DG of the agency directed the Warri and Effurun zonal commands to establish a total of 43 traffic beats to improve road safety and strengthen traffic control in the area.

The directive was issued by the Director- General alongside his Board members, and management team, during an official meeting with officers of DESTMA, where he emphasized the need for a more structured approach to traffic regulation.

According to the directive, the Warri Zonal Command is to create 25 beats, while the Effurun Zonal Command will establish 18, bringing the total to 43.

Speaking on the decision, Okiemute highlighted the increasing traffic challenges in Warri and Effurun due to rapid urbanization and growing commercial activities.

He noted that the additional beats would enable better monitoring and enforcement of traffic regulations, ensuring smoother vehicular movement and reducing congestion.

Okiemute attributed this development to the realization of the MORE Agenda of the Governor Sheriff Oborevwori administration, which prioritizes the security and safety of lives and property in Delta State.

He al so commended the s tat e government’s achievements in education, healthcare, roads, and infrastructure, stating that if the governor was eligible for a third term, Deltans would support him wholeheartedly.

Addressing DESTMA officers, the Board Chairman, Chief Peter Idion, applauded the state government’s commitment to rebranding the agency while declaring that Deltans would vote en-masse for Governor Oborevwori come 2027.

He urged officers to desist from accepting bribes from traffic offenders, warning that anyone caught engaging in corrupt practices would face legal consequences.

Chief Idion also commended the Warri and Effurun zonal commands, describing them as the most organized and well-maintained among those visited so far.
