BY JUMAI NWACHUKWU

IN a sustained effort to extend healthcare access to the less-privileged, the Delta State Contributory Health Commission (DSCHC) has registered 100 individuals from busa community in Oshimili North Local Government Area into the state’s Health Insurance Scheme.

The registration drive was made possible through collaboration with the Blessing O. Foundation International.

Speaking at the event, Director-General of DSCHC, Dr. Isaac Akpoveta, commended the Blessing O. Foundation International for spearheading the Indigent Enrollee Adoption Initiative. “This initiative is key to creating opportunities for improved healthcare cover- age in communities across Delta State,”.

Akpoveta, who was represented by the Director, PRS and ICT at the Commission, Mr. Emmanuel Akpofure, appealed to privileged individuals, groups, and orga- nizations to emulate the foundation’s gesture.

Akpoveta emphasized that a sponsorship token of N7, 000 per year for each enrollee could make a significant difference in uplifting indigent persons during these challenging economic times, thereby fostering a healthier and more equitable society.

He noted that the event marks the third launch of the Indigent Enrollee Adoption Initiative in Ibusa, as the event underscores the community’s ongoing commitment to supporting healthcare initiatives and ensuring that vulnerable populations receive essential health coverage.

In his remarks, the husband of the sponsor of the 100 enrollees, Mr. Frank Onwuachi, said that the gesture was meant to complement his wife’s sacrifices and contributions to society, as well as to support community growth. “I remain committed to supporting the foundation and making a positive impact on our society,” he affirmed.

In her remarks, the President of The Blessing O. Foundation International, Dr. Blessing Onwuachi, represented by the Secretary General of the Foundation, Mrs. Henrietta Chukwuemeka said that the Foundation is known for its six-pronged outreach initiatives, including programmes for orphans, survivors of sexual abuse, drug addicts, and widows continues to make impactful strides in the community.

Dr. Onwuachi, noted that the organization was established with a vision to support women and marginalized groups both spiritually and physically.

She highlighted the foundation’s “When Widows Pray Movement,” a gathering where widows from various states unite in prayer for communal well-being.

Beneficiaries expressed gratitude for the opportunity to access the free health scheme, while also thanking the state government for providing the platform that made the foundation’s sponsorship possible. The event featured on-the-spot registration of the 100 new enrollees, the issuance of insurance cards as well as presentation of a plaque in honour of the sponsor.
