BY JUMAI NWACHUKWU
The Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of the Delta State Contributory Health Commission (DSCHC), Dr. Isaac Akpoveta, reiterated the mandate of the State Government to all expectant mothers and children under five to be registered free into the scheme in state-owned hospitals to access quality health care services.
Dr. Akpoveta made the remarks in Jesse Community, Ethiope West Local Government Area, during the registration of 100 indigent persons into the state’s healthcare scheme.
The initiative was sponsored by a member of the Commission’s Board, High Chief Aweka Avwenaghegha.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Akpoveta emphasized that proper registration was essential to document beneficiaries and curb the influx of non-residents who seek to benefit from the state’s free healthcare services for pregnant women and young children.
He reiterated that the program was fully funded by the state government under the leadership of Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori and urged pregnant women to register as soon as they confirm their pregnancy to access the free healthcare services.
Commending High Chief Avwenaghegha for supporting the Indigent Enrollee Adoption Initiative of the Commission, Dr. Akpoveta described him as a worthy ambassador of the scheme. He encouraged other well-meaning Deltans to follow his example and contribute to improving healthcare access for vulnerable individuals.
In his remarks, High Chief Avwenaghegha explained that his decision to sponsor the 100 beneficiaries was driven by his desire to support his community, particularly given the rising cost of medications in the country.
He praised the Delta State Contributory Healthcare Scheme as a lifesaving initiative.
Several beneficiaries expressed their gratitude to the state government for the impactful program and to Chief Avwenaghegha for his generosity.
The event’s highlights included the presentation of an award to High Chief Avwenaghegha as an Ambassador of the Health Scheme, the on-the-spot registration of beneficiaries, and the distribution of health insurance cards to them.
