THE Director-General, Delta State Contributory Health Commission (DSCHC), Dr. Isaac Akpoveta has issued a strong warning to hospitals under the commission’s program, urging them to provide full access to quality healthcare for patients.
He emphasized that any hospital found guilty of denying care to patients would face strict sanction from the state government.
Dr. Akpoveta, who was represented by the commission’s Director of Admin and Human Resources, Mr. Bolum Nwanchukwu made this statement during the enrollment of 100 new beneficiaries into the state’s health insurance scheme in Oshimili South Ward 11.
According to him, the enrollment exercise was sponsored by the Chairman of the Rural Development Agency, Engr. Smart Meka, as part of efforts to expand healthcare coverage for underserved communities.
He urged residents to report any hospital failing to meet the required standard of care under the contributory health scheme.
“The state government is committed to ensuring that every enrolled patient receives the healthcare services they are entitled to. Our agents are placed in every hospital, monitoring activities, and we will not tolerate any hospital that denies people access to quality care,” he said.
Dr. Akpoveta further noted that the commission aims to provide affordable and accessible healthcare to all residents, especially those in rural areas. He added that the government continues to expand enrollment efforts to ensure more people benefit from the initiative.
Earlier in his speech, the sponsor of the 100 beneficiaries, Engr. Smart Meka, revealed that his decision to support the scheme was part of his birthday celebration and a way to provide lasting healthcare support to those unable to access medical services.
“This initiative is crucial in ensuring that people who need healthcare support receive the best possible care through the system,” he stated.
In his remarks, the Local Government Chairman, Hon. Kelvin Ezenyili, applauded Engr. Meka, describing him as the first leader in the local government to take such an initiative.
He assured residents that the local government would support the initiative to ensure that all Deltansare fully registered under the scheme and receive the best healthcare services.
Some of the beneficiaries also expressed appreciation for Engr. Meka’s initiative, commending his commitment to improving healthcare accessibility for all.
