DELTA State capital Territory Development Agency (DSCTDA) has commenced the serving of abatement notices to violators who do not comply with healthy environmental practices.
The Director-General of DSCTDA, Mr Patrick Ukah said a seven-day ultimatum has been issued and that if at its expiration, the violators do not comply, they would be served court summons and prosecuted according to extant environmental laws.
Some of the defaulters include Edmond Hotel, Okpanam for a defaced fence, Marymic Supermarket, Okpanam over discharge of waste water; Monic Hotel, Okpanam for not having waste bins and failure to register with a PSP for refuse collection, among other offences.
Head of Environment of the agency, Mr. Isaac Nwosu noted that the government would sustain compliance and enforcement of all environmental laws, adding that there is need for residents to clear their surroundings of blocked drains.
He therefore called for the support and participation of all residents and other stakeholders to achieve the government’s plan for a cleaner and greener Delta.
He said the state government, through the Delta State Capital Territory Development Agency, Ministry of Environment, Environmental Taskforce and Waste Management Board, has intensified cleanliness across the state capital territory. He advised that as the rain intensifies, residents must clear grasses in and around their premises, desilt drains regularly and dispose of waste properly.
