The Delta State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to enhance water infrastructure for the benefit of its residents.
The Commissioner for Water Resources Development, Dr Isaac Wilkie emphasized this commitment in Unenurhie, Ughelli North Local Government Area of the state during an on-the-spot assessment/inspection visit to ascertain the progress of the rehabilitated water supply scheme projects across small towns and rural communities in Delta State.
The commissioner was accompanied on the inspection by the General Manager, Small Towns Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (STOWASSA), Engr Anthony Unuafe, the General Manager, Rural Water Supply And Sanitation Agency (RUWASSA), Clem Adiotomre, as well as some members of the mnistry and agencies, to monitor the projects.
The joint inspection team visited Afiesere, Unenurhie, Agadama and Agbarha water schemes in Ughelli North Local Government Areas under supervision of the Small Towns Water Supply and Sanitation Agency.
Also visited were Oviri-Ogor, Agbarha water schemes in Ughelli North Local Government Areas and Amoji Water scheme, Kwale, in Ndokwa West Local Government Area, under the supervision of the Rural Water supply And Sanitation Agency.
Wilkie, in an interview after the inspection, commended the contractors for the installation of water hydrants in all the schemes in small towns and he was satisfied with the level of job done, adding that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori understands the importance of water in the lives of the people, the reason he has prioritized the provision of clean, accessible and potable water supply to the people of the state in line with his MORE agenda.
He appealed to residents of the towns and rural communities to ensure the good use of the water schemes, take ownership and protect them from vandalism, just as he advised the water consumer association, WCAs and the WASH committee to ensure the sustainability of the schemes. One of the residents in Unenurhie town, Michael Ejeba, expressed happiness over the facilities, saying that it has gone a long way in alleviating their need for good sources of water for drinking and domestic use.
Another community leader, Ifeanyi Ozioma, in Oviri-Ogor Community, lauded the state Government saying that this gesture was unprecedented in the history of the community.
