DTHA Passes Child Rights Amendment Bill

THE Delta State Child Rights Amendment Bill 2024 has sailed through third reading on the floor of the State House of Assembly as it was subsequently passed.

The third reading of the bill and its subsequent passage was preceded by a Committee of the Whole House, where the legislators scrutinized it clause by clause and section by section

Motion for the passage of the bill, which was sponsored by the member representing Ika North-East State Constituency, Hon.  Marilyn Okowa-Daramola was moved by the Majority Leader and member representing Aniocha North State Constituency, Hon Emeka Nwaobi at plenary presided over by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor.

The Pointer reports that the bill was considered at the Committee of the Whole House chaired by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor

The motion for the passage of the bill, which was unanimously adopted by the House when put to a voice vote by the speaker, was seconded by the Minority Leader, Hon. Emakpor Edafe.

Commending the lawmakers for their legislative deligenec in the passage of the bill, the Speaker, Rt. Hon Guwor noted that when signed into law, the bill would help to strengthen the legal framework for child rights protection in the state.

‘’The passage of this bill represents a significant step in strengthening the legal framework for child rights protection in the state, ‘’ he said.

Guwor commanded the lawmakers for their commitment and contributions towards the passage of the bill.

He added, ‘’at the committee of the whole, the child rights amendment bill was considered clause by clause, section by section.

‘’I must commend members for the efforts they put in during the consideration of the bill at the committee of the whole.’’
