DTHA Resumes Plenary, Promises To Sustain Robust Legislation

BY ANDREW IKEHI

AS members of the Delta State House of Assembly (DTHA) resumed plenary yesterday, the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor declared that the 8th Assembly is committed to entrenching robust legislative activities.

To drive this, the Speaker said the House would continue to strengthen legislative framework to support government’s expenditures in reflecting value for money.

Addressing the lawmakers on resumption of plenary, Guwor stressed the need for legislators to up the ante so as to realize their core legislative assignment, which is law-making, then the welfare of constituents.

He said, “I want to reiterate the fact that we ended 2024 legislative business on a very high note, especially, with the timely passage of the 2025 Appropriation Bill

“Distinguished colleagues, the 2025 Budget of the state provides for massive infrastructural development in all sectors across the State, as well as, human capital development.

“It is therefore incumbent on us as members of the House vide the Standing Committees of the House to oversight government’s spending priorities through collaborative efforts with the Executive arm of government.

“I wish to state unequivocally that the Legislature and the Executive are democratic vehicles in the society for the appropriation, mobilisation and deployment of resources for the development, welfare and security of the state and the people.

“The House will ensure that government’s expenditures reflect value for money. At this juncture, I wish to commend His Excellency, Rt.. Hon. ( Elder) Sheriff Francis Orohwedor Oborevwori, our workaholic and pragmatic Governor, for on-the-spot inspection of ongoing projects in the state.

“As we have resumed plenary, I want to urge chairmen and members of committees to expedite action on all pending bills before their Committees. We need to conclude action on all pending bills before the end of the Second Session in the month of June this year”, Guwor said.
