DTHA To Hold Public Hearing On Human Trafficking Bill Monday

The Delta State House of Assembly committee on Housing, Women Affairs/Girl Child Entrepreneur and Humanitarian Support Services has invited Memoranda from the public and relevant stakeholders on a bill to enact the Delta State Human Trafficking (Prohibition) Bill, 2024.

The Chairman of the committee and member representing Oshimili South state Constituency, Hon Bridget Anyafulu, in a statement said that public hearing on the ongoing bill has been scheduled for Monday, September 9, this year.

Hon. Anyafulu, in the statement had enjoined interested members of the public and relevant stakeholders to submit 10 copies of their memoranda to the committee on or before the date of the hearing.

According to her, all memoranda which must be sealed, should be forwarded to her office and marked; “Delta State Human Trafficking (Prohibition) Bill”

Specifically, the committee has requested the State Ministry of Justice, National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), Adviser to the Governor on Human Trafficking Matters, Ministry of Women Affairs, Community and Social Development to attend the hearing billed for 10:00am at the press center of the State House of Assembly complex.

Other Ministries and stakeholders specifically invited at the hearing include; Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Community Support Services and Girl Child

Development, Ministry of Youth Development, Ministry of Information, Delta State Job & Wealth Creation Office and the Delta State Orientation Bureau

Others include; the Nigeria Police, Nigeria Immigration Service, Department of State Security (DSS), Nigeria Security & Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Nigeria Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Traditional Rulers ‘Council, NGO’s that specialize in counter-trafficking of persons.

Similarly, Members of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Directorate of Peace and Security and the general public have been enjoined to attend.
