DTSG Accelerates CNG Initiative To Reduce Transport Costs

The Delta State Transport Commissioner, Mr Onoriode Agofure has reaffirmed the State Government’s commitment towards the Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) initiative.

Agofure reaffirmed this in a meeting he held with the General Manager (Project and Operations) of NIPCO Gas Ltd, Engr Sanjay Tarat in Asaba, the state capital.  The Commissioner, during the meeting, disclosed that the Ministry was in talks with other professionals, adding that he wants the best in the area of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG).” I’m aware of the track record of NIPCO in the area of CNG since 2007”.

He added that the State is in a hurry to get the issue of the CNG innovation right in the areas of construction of compressing stations as well as establishing other necessary equipment such as conversion plants for vehicles from fuel to the usage of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG). Agofure said that plans were on the ground to use CNG technology to run the proposed Mass Transit Scheme, adding that “conversion of fuel vehicles to CNG for commercial and private cars would mitigate the rising cost of fuel.

Earlier, the General Manager (Project and Operations) of NIPCO Gas Ltd, Engr Sanjay Tarat, said that Delta State was blessed with enough gas which has made it stand out in the country.

Sanjay added that they are unique in the business of converting fuel vehicles to Compressed Natural Gas, stressing that they have so far converted 12,000 cars in Edo State, amongst other states with their expertise and technology, adding that in Warri they already have five stations that would soon be activated for operations.

In attendance were the Management Staff of the Ministry of Transport, the representative of the Commissioner for Urban Renewal, Director of Urban Development, Okore Godwin and Engr Victor Victor, Project Manager NIPCO GAS Ltd. The high point of the meeting was the visitation of five proposed sites for the establishment of the Compressed Natural Gas technology in Asaba.
