DTSG Goes Tough On Unauthorized Overseas Travel By Public Servants

BY ARUORIWO IVOVI

GOVERNOR Sheriff Oborevwori has expressed deep concern over public servants traveling abroad without proper authorization, abandoning their responsibilities while still drawing salaries.

To address this, the Delta State Government is enforcing strict discipline and accountability within the public service.

State Head of Service, Mr. Reginald Bayoko, mni, has ordered all public and civil servants who traveled abroad without permission or with expired authorizations to return to duty within two weeks or face severe disciplinary action, including dismissal.

Mr. Bayoko has also instructed all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to submit lists of officers who traveled abroad since 2018, indicating if proper authorization was obtained or if they overstayed. These reports are due by Monday, December 2, 2024. Accounting Officers and Supervisors will be held accountable for any regulatory breaches, including salary recovery from absent officers.

A circular (No. TM.3/57/T1/46) issued on November 11, 2024, emphasizes the government’s zero-tolerance for indiscipline. The Head of Service stressed that noncompliance will lead to immediate dismissal and urged MDAs to ensure full adherence to regulations.

Mr. Bayoko reiterated the administration’s commitment to ethical governance and called for collective responsibility in upholding public service standards. He emphasized the need for strict adherence to travel protocols, underscoring every officer’s role in maintaining the integrity of Delta State’s public service.
