THE Delta State Government has admonished communities having land disputes to maintain peace as it would not tolerate any act, capable of breaching law and order in the State. The Special Adviser to the Governor on Peace Building and Conflict Resolution, Chief Edwin Uzor gave the advice recently in Obompka and Ugbo-Oba communities both in Aniocha North Local Government Areas, when he went on a fact-finding visit to the disputed land between the two communities.
According to him, the visit had become imperative to assess the disputed land, so that the state government could have adequate knowledge of the dispute as well as to ensure that claims presented in papers before the State Government by the disputing communities were accurate.
Chief Uzor chastised the communities for allowing the natural resources in the area, especially the coal mining, to bring division between them, just as he urged the youths to refrain from acts that could retard the peace and progress of their communities. Speaking further, he explained the Enhanced Peace and Security component of the MORE agenda of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, stressing that no meaningful development can take place in any community in crisis.
The Special Adviser appealed to the leadership of the two communities to educate their people on peaceful co-existence to attract meaningful development in their areas, while assuring them that more investigations would be conducted to guide members of the Peace Building team in ensuring that total peace is restored to the two communities. Among the disputed areas visited by Chief Uzor and his team were the Healthcare Centre, Obunabu’s oldest shrine
