DTSG Moves To Settle Ibedeni Community Crisis

  • To Give Verdict On Monday

The Delta State Government has intervened to resolve the leadership dispute in the Ibedeni Community, Ndokwa East Local Government Area, in line with its commitment to promoting peace under the MORE agenda.

To this end, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Peace Building and Conflict Resolution, Chief Edwin Uzor presided over a mediation meeting of aggrieved parties in Asaba, the state capital.

Addressing newsmen after the meeting, Chief Uzor underscored the significance of inclusivity and active participation of all stakeholders in community matters as a crucial tool for maintaining peace.

Chief Uzor buttressed the significance of maintaining peace and order in communities, highlighting the role of peace and security in the MORE Agenda; being the crux of the Governor Sheriff Oborevwori administration.

“The issue has to do with Ibedeni Community in Ndokwa East, Local Government along the River Niger. There was a complaint that the President General (PG) of the community is taking the powers of the Onowo which is supposed to be regents and that is why we invited them.

“We have heard from them what the issues are, and we have advised them to go home and maintain peace as, the meeting has been adjourned till Monday, December 16 2024, where we will draw the curtains on this matter close.

“The dispute is about a power tussle; one person on one side trying to take control of both sides. But, the rules don’t permit that. By Monday, we will tell them what needs to be done.

‘’Stakeholders present at the meeting include the representative of the Onon of Ibedeni Kingdom Dcn John Enyi; Chairman of Ibedeni Community, Chukwuma- Ossai Okechukwu; Okowa Agbakana of Ibedeni Kingdom, Chief Odili Umuarah; Okwa Omeda of Ibedeni Kingdom, Chief Felix Obi; Auditor Community, Rev Azubike Okoro; Chairman Ibedeni Improvement Union Kwale, Johnson Ekpeti; Ochiagha of Ibedeni Community, Orara John, among others.
