In a major step towards enhancing vocational education, the Delta State Government has implemented a standardized curriculum across all Vocational Education Centres in the state.
This was disclosed by the Executive Secretary of the Technical and Vocational Education Board (TVEB), Mr. Stanley Eruemulor, during the Conference of Vocational Education Centres, held at the Chike Edozie Secretariat in Asaba.
Speaking on the conference theme: “Technical and Vocational Training: Panacea for Solving Unemployment, Reducing Youth Restiveness, and Raising Skilled, Self-Reliant Workforce,” Eruemulor emphasized the importance of skill acquisition for youth, regardless of academic qualifications or social status.
He stated that the conference aimed to brainstorm and gather collective ideas to enhance vocational education centres.
Eruemulor assured that the standardized curriculum would be provided to all centres at no cost, urging instructors to apply discretion in its implementation, while ensuring all learning criteria were covered within the stipulated timeframe.
In her remarks, the Director of Programmes and Training (TVEB), Mrs. Blessing Ogheneaga described Technical and Vocational Training (TVET) as the foundation for practical skills acquisition, proper work ethics, and scientific knowledge.
Highlighting its benefits, she noted that TVET not only equip individuals with income-generating skills but also prepares them for employment opportunities.
“There can be no sustainable development without vocational and technical education, and there can be no vocational and technical education without practical skills acquisition,” she stated.
She stressed that TVET is the engine of economic growth, adding that it remains the key solution for equipping individuals with relevant skills to meet the demands of the labor market.
With this initiative, the Delta State Government has, therefore, shown its commitment to tackling unemployment, reducing youth restiveness, and fostering a skilled and self-reliant workforce through quality vocational education.
