THE Delta State Government has released N1.6 billion to the Delta State Contributory Health Commission (DSCHC) to support healthcare services for pregnant women and children under the age of five across the state.
The Director-General, DSCHC, Dr. Isaac Akpoveta, announced this in Asaba, the Delta State capital.
He explained that ₦1 billion of the funds would be used to settle outstanding fees, while ₦100 million each would be allocated monthly to cover the healthcare costs of children under five and pregnant women in the State.
According to him, the funds will ensure access to quality healthcare for the most vulnerable, aligning with the state government’s commitment to improving public health.
“This funding demonstrates the government’s dedication to strengthening healthcare services for our vulnerable population. It will provide essential medical care to pregnant women and young children, helping to reduce maternal and child mortality rates in the state,” he stated.
He further reiterated that the scheme aims to provide affordable and accessible healthcare to residents through a structured insurance system. With this new allocation, the government hopes to expand its reach and improve medical services across the state.
Meanwhile, health officials and stakeholders have commended the initiative, describing it as a significant step toward achieving universal health coverage in Delta State.
