DTSG Tasks Trad Rulers, Community Leaders On Sustained Peace

The Delta State Government has called on stakeholders, especially traditional rulers, presidents-general, chairmen of community development committees, religious leaders and members of civil society groups in the state, to assist in promoting adequate peace in their various communities.

The call was made by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Peace Building and Conflict Resolution, Chief Edwin Uzor recently, during a two-day joint meeting with representatives of KpoKpo Community in Warri South West, Ufuoma Fish Farmers association and Ekpan Community in Uvwie local government area; as well as representatives of Odion Urhobo and Odion Itsekiri  in Warri South, Representatives of Ogbolobiri and Egodor communities in Burutu and Representatives of Aloba Olomoru  and Kiagbodo in Ughelli South Local Government Areas of the State at the Unity Hall, Government House Annex, Warri.

According to Uzor, the state government will continue to foster and strengthen the ideas of peace among the ethnic nationalities in the state by ensuring equity, justice and fairness for all Deltans. Uzor added that only peace and security could give rise to growth and development both in the communities and the state at large.

The special adviser noted that the administration of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori would continue to resolve any lingering inter and intra crisis in the state.

He adjourned the meeting between the representatives of kpokpo and Ekpan communities and he urged them to continue to live in peace, as he pleaded with KpoKpo community to present all the necessary valid documents before the next meeting, and that the Unuevworo of Ekpan Community, Chief Peter Iffie, should ensure that the youths of the community also maintained peace with Ufuoma Fish Farmers Association.

In order to foster peace in the state, Chief Uzor led the peace building team for a fact-finding mission to the disputed Eyube family land and admonished the Odion Urhobo and Odion Itsekiri to submit proof of ownership documents of the said disputed land for review.

The peace team also advised the Egodor Community in Burutu, Aloba Olomoru and Kiagbodo communities in Ughelli South Local Government Areas to maintain peace, saying that development could only strive in an atmosphere of peace and tranquility.

Meanwhile, the disputing communities expressed satisfaction and promised to continue to coexist in peace while the state government brings total peace to their communities.
