As part of its commitment to environmental sustainability, the Delta State Government, through the Ministry of Transport has announced that 2025 will mark a significant milestone in the drive for a cleaner and healthier state, free from hazardous vehicle emissions.
In a statement issued by the Commissioner for Transport, Mr. Onoriode Agofure, the government made it clear that smoke emissions from commercial and company vehicles will no longer be tolerated adding that the initiative aligns with the State Internal Revenue Law 2020, which mandates that all commercial and company vehicles operating within the state obtain a Smoke Emission Permit.
To facilitate compliance, the state government has authorized Markenard International Services Limited to oversee the collection of revenue for excessive smoke emissions permits across the three senatorial districts of Delta State. Vehicle owners are required to obtain the permit at all Vehicle Inspection Offices (VIOs) in the state.
The government reiterated that adherence to the Internal Revenue Law 2020 is crucial in maintaining a cleaner environment and safeguarding public health. Compliance will not only benefit the state but also help vehicle owners avoid legal repercussions.
The statement further emphasized the importance of voluntary compliance to prevent prosecution, urging all commercial and company vehicle operators to ensure their vehicles meet the required environmental standards before the enforcement deadline.
