DTSG To Partner Private Sector On Electric Tricycles

THE Delta State government has said that it may consider phasing away fossil fuel to electric tricycles considering the high price of fuel.

The State Commissioner for Transport, Mr. Onoriode Agofure disclosed this in Asaba, the State capital while speaking to newsmen.

According to him, “considering the fact that modern countries are moving away from fossil fuel to cleaner energy, it is a very noble, innovative project and scheme, I think it is something that the State government will look into and consider seriously in the near future.

“It is cleaner in the sense of environmental pollution and it is way cheaper considering the price of petrol now.

“Economically, it is going to be beneficial to motorcycle riders and operators of tricycles in the State. I think it is a very laudable project”.

The tricycle, which was tested with the commissioner riding in it, could run for 120km when fully charged.

He called on Deltans to exercise patience as there are plans in the pipeline that would soon bear fruits.

Also, the Executive Assistant to the Governor on International Development Partnership, Paul Odili, disclosed that a private entity introduced the solar energy tricycle to the State.

“It is an admirable product, I like it. It is electric, which is the reason why it is looking more attractive.

“I am happy that the administration of Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori is interested in this, he wants to see how he can form an electrical transportation system”, expressing joy that the private sector was leading the way.

A tricycle operator, Mohamed Ciroma, disclosed that it lasts for 24 hours while it has the capacity of conveying seven passengers.
