DTSG To Review Activities Of Media Aides

BY JUMAI NWACHUKWU

Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori is focused on advancing Delta through purposeful and pragmatic leadership that is exclusive, personalized and not comparable to any other leader or administration.

The Director-General of the State Orientation and Communications Bureau, Dr Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe, made the assertion while speaking during a public affairs program on radio monitored in Asaba.

Dr Oghenesivbe disclosed that the governor came prepared to advance Delta and to achieve his vision, the MORE Agenda came to be, assuring that the high level of fiscal discipline, prudent management of state resources and transparency shall be sustained throughout his administration.

He said the good governance strides of the governor must be well communicated by authorized spokespersons, and not just any media aide to the governor or social media influencer on the payroll of government, pointing out that being a media aide does not automatically translate to being a government spokesperson.

Dr Oghenesivbe disclosed that unauthorized media aides to the Governor must never issue statements, grant media interviews, and must of a necessity go through skills acquisition training, and get approvals from their unit leaders and mentors to avoid embarrassing the governor and government through reckless statements.

The communication strategist, who dwelt on the gains of the just-concluded Delta State Communication Workshop posited that the state Information and Communication Management Council, will soon meet to review the activities of media aides to the governor to avoid reoccurrence of defective media statements.

He said DELCOM has been a unique government platform designed to sharpen the skills of media aides, social media influencers and media partners, adding that not all media aides to the governor were authorized to issue press statements and grant media interviews.

The State Communication Bureau Chief disclosed that the Commissioner for Information, Dr Michael Osuoza is the head of the state information and communication structures, while the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor is the official spokesperson of the governor, and the Director-General of the State Orientation and Communications Bureau functions as the communication and sensitization campaigns strategist of government.

According to Dr Oghenesivbe, the trio of HCI, CPS and DG-DSOCB are the authorized persons with the required skills and experience to grant media interviews and craft statements, noting that the CPS recently signed out a memo directing media aides to channel their stories and articles through his office for vetting as a measure to control the standard of information flow to the public.

On the ongoing yuletide celebration in the State, Dr Oghenesivbe said Governor Oborevwori’s good governance strides, coupled with the synergy between security agencies in the state had in no small measures enhanced the security of life and property, while commending the Commissioner for Police, Olufemi Abaniwonda and his men for effective and proactive policing.

He posited that Governor Oborevwori recently provided an additional 40 brand new Hilux patrol vans to security agencies in the state, as well as other multifaceted supports which had improved response and rescue operations throughout the three senatorial districts in the state.
