Delta State Transport Commissioner, Mr Onoriode Agofure has described drivers and their duties as very relevant in the successful running of government business.
Agofure said this when he declared opened a one-day compulsory eye screening and re-orientation seminar for drivers in the state public service which was held in Asaba.
The transport commissioner commended Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for the approval and release of funds for the eye screening that was used to check common health challenges.
Agofure said: “I do not doubt that the seminar would improve the visual acuity and efficiency of all the drivers that were screened”.
At the seminar, health professionals were drawn from different areas of specialization. There was a medical doctor, optometrist, lab scientist, nurses and a psychologist who carried out the checks.
According to Agofure, drivers should not be undermined in any way, while he advised them to be civil and put their irritabilities under check, even in the face of provocation.
The Director of Mechanical Engineering Services, Engr Kingsley Itimi, charged the drivers to always reciprocate the government’s good intentions.
Some lecture topics included Care of the Eyes, Road Traffic laws, as well as Stress Management, amongst others.
The high point of the seminar was the issuance of free reading glasses and certificates to the drivers.
