The Delta State Government has issued a stern warning to contractors handling infrastructural projects against truancy, emphasizing the importance of their presence during routine inspections by government officials.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Project Monitoring and Audit, Engr Goodnews Agbi, delivered this admonition during an inspections in Isoko North, Ughelli North, and Okpe Local Government Areas.
Agbi stressed the need for contractors to be fully cooperative and available during inspections to ensure adherence to best practices in line with the MORE Agenda, and to avoid substandard work.
Key projects inspected included the construction of the School of Medical Science at Delta State University of Science and Technology, Ozoro, a new 500-seater auditorium at the Orerokpe Campus, the remodelling and reconstruction of facilities at the Orerokpe Campus of DELSUT, and road construction around Otovwodo junction in Ughelli North Local Government Area.
“There is a significant volume of work ongoing in the state, and our governor’s commitment is unmatched,” Agbi said, addressing journalists. “Despite variations in material costs, these laudable projects continue. Governor Oborevwori is 100 per cent committed to the MORE Agenda, transforming the state’s landscape despite limited funds. All he needs is our cooperation.”
Agbi urged contractors to ensure accuracy in their work, be present during inspections, and make necessary corrections.
“For remodelling and reconstruction projects, integrity tests confirm that the structures are safe for students. The Otovwodo roads are in good shape, though some misalignments need correction before project completion,” Agbi added.
Project engineers on the site assured our correspondent of their commitment to timely delivery and quality results, pledging to address any necessary corrections.
