DWP Applaud Oborevwori’s Commitment To Poverty Reduction, Women Empowerment

A socio-political group, Delta Women in Politics (DWP) has lauded Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for his dedication to reducing poverty through empowerment of youths, women, and vulnerable groups in the State.

The group’s Convener, Hon. Betty Onakpoma, expressed this commendation during a visit to the State Commissioner of Economic Planning, Mr. Sonny Ekedayen, at the Government House in Asaba.

Speaking at the occasion, Onakpoma emphasized that Governor Oborevwori’s administration has given significant and commendable attention to the critical area of women’s empowerment.

Congratulating Ekedayen on his appointment, she attributed his new role to his exemplary track record, sense of patriotism, and commitment to advancing the state’s development.

Onakpoma who doubles as the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Women Mobilization, highlighted that Delta Women in Politics is dedicated to mobilizing women across the state, encouraging their political engagement, and enabling them to reach their full potential for the benefit of their communities.

In her words: “Our visit is to inform the ministry about the scope of our work and its benefits for Deltans. We believe it aligns perfectly with Governor Sheriff’s MORE Agenda, especially in promoting women’s participation in the state’s economic development.”

She further emphasized the group’s support for the administration’s initiatives, particularly those focused on uplifting women and consolidating efforts to enhance their impact on society.

Onakpoma also highlighted the critical role women play in the nation’s development, describing them as the “power and spirit” of the country.

She reiterated that Delta Women in Politics, with members spanning the state’s 25 local government areas, is committed to fostering an inclusive environment that nurtures women’s growth, development, and leadership, ultimately leading to their overall empowerment and the betterment of their communities.

While thanking

Oborevwori for his gender-inclusive policies, she called for the expansion of economic opportunities for women stressing the need for increased support for entrepreneurship, access to financial services, and mentorship programs tailored to women’s needs.

Responding to the group’s visit, Honourable Commissioner, Mr. Sonny Ekedayen expressed his gratitude for the recognition and support.

He commended the unity, goals, and activities of DWP and urged them to continue their grassroots backing of Governor Oborevwori’s administration.

Ekedayen assured the group that the government remains committed to creating economic opportunities that empower women, particularly in entrepreneurship and business development.
