…As HMB Amendment Bill Passes Second Reading
AS preparation for the Easter celebration thicks, the Delta State House of Assembly (DTHA), yesterday adjourned plenary by three weeks.They are to resume Tuesday, April, 29, 2025.
This was announced yesterday at the close of plenary presided over by the Speaker, Rt Hon Emomotimi Guwor following a motion moved by the Majority Leader and member representing Aniocha North State Constituency, Hon Emeka Nwaobi.
Following the long adjournment, the Speaker, Rt Hon Emomotimi Guwor enjoined the lawmakers to take advantage of the Easter break to fraternize with their constituents.
While wishing the lawmakers, Assembly staff and Deltans in general a hitch-free Easter celebration, the Speaker stressed the need for all Deltans to use the period to reflect on the reason for the season.
Meanwhile, The Pointer reports that during yesterday‘s plenary, a bill for a law to amend the Delta State Hospitals Management Law, 2008 sailed through second reading on the floor of the State Assembly.
The bill, which is being sponsored by the member representing Isoko South 2 State Constituency, Hon Ferguson Onwo gained overwhelming support by the lawmakers.
Leading debate on the bill, Hon. Ferguson Onwo, Chairman House of Assembly committee on Health noted that the amendment of the law had become imperative given its obsolete nature as it was enacted 17 years ago.
The lawmaker noted that some sections and clauses in the law are no longer in tandem with the present economic realities and in relation to the present health sector.
Speaking on the merits of the bill some of the lawmakers who included the Majority Leader, Hon EmekaNwaobi, Deputy Speaker, Rt Hon Arthur Akpowowo, the member representing Oshimili South, Hon. Bridget Anyafulu among others, noted that when passed and signed into law, the proposed law seeks among other things to strengthen the State Health sector..
The Speaker, Rt Hon Emomotimi Guwor referred the bill to the House joint committee on Special bill and House committee on Health.
