A United Kingdom-based businessman and Chairman of the Neha Consultative Forum, Mr. Samson Akowe, has urged primary and secondary school students in Ozanogogo not to be deceived into thinking that education is a fraud. He emphasized the importance of education during the Neha Consultative Forum’s book and bag support program for Iduneha children, held on Saturday, at the Iduneha Community Hall in Ika¬-South Local Government Area, Delta State.
Mr. Akowe’s message, delivered by Mr. Godwin Aigui, recounted his personal struggles with poverty, which prevented him from completing his primary education. Despite these challenges, he left the village with nothing but hope, belief, and determination to succeed. Today, he is a graduate of London University, a testament to the power of perseverance and education.
He encouraged the students not to let their place of birth define their present and future. “Dream big, be fearless, and drive forward with purpose, and you will succeed,” he urged.
Mr. Akowe also expressed gratitude to God Almighty for the privilege to give back to his community and thanked all members of the Neha Consultative Forum for their tireless efforts in making the event a reality.
In a related address, Mr. Edwin Nosakhare Aiyudu, an Assistant Chief Academic Technologist in the Department of Performing Arts and Film Studies at Kwara State University, delivered a lecture on “The Importance of Education in Our Community.” He emphasized that educating children is crucial for sustainable societal growth and development.
Mr. Aiyudu highlighted the challenges facing contemporary society, noting that many youths have developed a misguided socio-economic orientation, often doubting the value of education. As a result, many pursue quick wealth through unconventional means, and some adopt the ‘JAPA’ syndrome, which involves leaving the country at all costs, regardless of their educational background. He pointed out that even the educated ones who travel often contribute to the professional brain drain plaguing Nigeria.
He appealed to the children and youths to avoid social vices and recommit themselves to their education, emphasizing that education has no age limit. He also advised parents to not only monitor their children’s progress regularly but to take pride in ensuring they receive a proper education.
The highlight of the event was the presentation of ten exercise books, a school bag, and a mathematical set to ninety-nine primary and secondary school children by Mr. Idume Enahoro, Chief Inspector of Education for Ika South Local Government Area.
