Egbo Orders Demolition Of Illegal Structures On Drainage Channels

  • As He Leads Environment Sanitation Exercise

THE monthly sanitation exercise in Ughelli North Local Government Area took an unexpected turn on Saturday when the Council Chairman, Olorogun Jaro Egbo ordered the demolition of illegal structures obstructing drainage channels and initiated the clearing of blocked drains. Olorogun Egbo warned that the usual leniency was over, and issued a stern warning to the residents of Ughelli North, urging them to take the cleanliness of their surroundings seriously.

The monthly sanitation exercise commenced with the chairman, accompanied by the Leader of the Ughelli North Legislative Arm, Hon. Ajero Okeoghene Prosper, Chief of Staff, Prince Elvis Oharisi, and Head of Environment. Mrs. Victory Ikpibako.

They proceeded directly from the Post Office Roundabout to Mission Road, where the chairman ordered the demolition of illegal structures blocking drainage channels, using a bulldozer.

And at Afiesere, he ordered the clearing of blocked drainages.

In an interview, the chairman said that his administration was dedicated to changing the negative narrative by ensuring that Ughelli North becomes the cleanest local government.

He highlighted that clearing blocked drainages would help prevent flooding during the rains and reduce malaria-related diseases caused by mosquitoes thriving in dirty environments.

Olorogun Egbo reaffirmed his commitment to advancing Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s MORE Agenda at the grassroots level and appealed to Ughelli North residents to be law abiding, maintain clean environment and be security-conscious.

The Chairman also said that the clean-up efforts would extend to other parts of the council area, and warned those conducting business on the medians of Ughelli Market and Otovwodo Market to cease immediately to avoid the destruction of their goods.

In her remark, the HOD, Environment, Ughelli North Local Government, Mrs Victory Ikpibako, who expressed satisfaction on the sanitation exercise said that the action of the council chairman is the right one to correct the anomaly on dirty environment.

She called on Ughelli North residents to cultivate the habit of patronizing PSP in disposing their refuge and avoid trading on unapproved places.

A total of fifty-nine individuals were tried by the Mobile Court, established by the Local Government.

Of these, fifty-six were fined for violating sanitation laws, while three were discharged.
