Engage In Skills Devt, Community Projects —DG

THE Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Yusha’u Ahmed, has called on corps members to engage in skills development and community projects.

He made this known during a recent one-day working visit to the orientation camp in Issele-Uku, Delta State where he addressed the corpers on the necessity of participating in the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) program to add value to their personal and professional lives.

“The SAED program is an integral part of the NYSC scheme and is designed to equip Corps Members with practical skills and entrepreneurial knowledge, fostering self-reliance and enhancing employability in a competitive job market. As young graduates, you should take full advantage of this initiative to add value to yourselves,” he said.

In addition to promoting skill acquisition, Brigadier General Ahmed underscored the importance of security consciousness among corps members, advising them to avoid situations that could compromise their safety, particularly highlighting the risks associated with night travels and unauthorized journeys.

“Your safety is paramount. Avoid putting yourselves in harm’s way by refraining from night travels and always seek permission before embarking on any journey,” he said.

He also advised corps members to observe cleanliness, noting the national concern over rising cholera cases, and warned against dress code violations with the NYSC uniform.

Furthermore, the Director-General called on corps members to engage with their host communities by identifying pressing local needs and addressing them through community development projects. This approach, he noted, not only benefits the community but also provides corps members with invaluable experience in project management and civic responsibility.
