Delta State Commissioner for Environment, Mr. Ejiro Jamani has disclosed plans to impound trucks carrying sand and granite if they are not properly covered during their movement.
Jamani who announced this to newsmen in Asaba, said the decision was aimed to reduce the environmental impact and safety hazards associated with uncovered haulage.
He added that the ministry’s compliance monitoring team and law enforcement agencies will be tasked with intercepting and impounding uncovered trucks or haulage operators who fail to comply with this new directive.
The administration of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori seeks to minimize the spillage of sand and granite onto roads, reducing damage to infrastructures and the environment.
Deltans are enjoined to join in sensitizing the people especially trucks drivers to cover their loads to prevent accidents caused by falling debris.
