The Igbo Community in Delta State, under the aegis of Ohaneze Indigbo, have been urged to foster greater unity with one another to be able to continually speak with one voice on issues affecting them as a community.
The Chief of Staff to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State, Hon Prince Johnson Erijo, made the call when a delegation of the leadership of Ohaneze Indigbo, Delta Central and Delta South, visited him at Government House, Asaba.
Hon Erijo noted that the Igbo community in Delta ranked among the most populous, adding that the Igbo were known to be well organized, especially in business related ventures, making them dependable partners in progress.
The Chief of Staff added that government was not unmindful of the political relevance of the Igbo community in the state, stressing that their roles in the 2023 elections that brought Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to power, and indeed the previous elections, were quite appreciated.
He assured the delegation that the resourcefulness of members of Ohaneze Indigbo, Delta Central and Delta South, which had impacted positively on the economy of the state, and their support for the Oborevwori administration, would not be taken for granted.
Hon. Erijo advised the group to seek ways of working closely with Igbos in the Non Indigenes’ Association of Delta State to ensure a better flow of communication and access to government patronage.
He congratulated the new executive officers of the group on their emergence and assured that the issues canvassed by the delegation would be looked into with a view to bolstering the existing partnering between the organisation and the state government.
Earlier, the leader of the delegation and President, Ohaneze Ndigbo, Delta Central and Delta South chapter, Chief Joel Ndidi Aminu, said the visit was to familiarize the Chief of Staff with the new executive of the body.
Chief Aminu expressed the desire of the group for an audience with the Governor, and urged the Chief of Staff to help to facilitate it.
