THE Delta State Commissioner, Bureau for Special Duties, Mr. Etacherure Terry has paid visit to Ogheye-Eghoroke and Ogheye-Dimigun in Warri North Local Government Area of Delta State to inspect and ascertain the level of destruction done to the communities by ocean surge and it’s effect.
The commissioner also paid visit to other communities along the Benin River for on the spot assessments over the destruction of properties due to the surge
Etacherure, in company of Hon Fred Martins, member representing Warri North in the State House of Assembly, Chairman Warri North Local Government Area , Hon Festus Ashima and the Permanent Secretary of the Bureau, Prince Greg Ejohwomu, Director State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Mr karo Ovemeso, were all part of the team who visited the community to to ascertain the level of damaged.
The Ocean surge has damaged properties worth thousands of Naira and has taken over 50 per cent of the communities thereby rendering many homeless, while others have fled their homes and communities for fear of being drowned by the high tide of the ocean.
Etacherure, while commiserating with the members of the communities, said that the pain of every Deltan was a burden and worries for the Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori’s government, hence the prompt visit to ascertain the level of damage.
According to him, the visit was at the behest of the governor who deemed it fit and necessary to send him to the communities to let them know that he cared for all, as all Deltans were important in his administration and he will do what it takes to ameliorate their plight.
It could be recalled that the representative of the Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse III, Mr Collins Edema cried out to the government few days ago on the level of destruction caused by the ocean surge which is gradually sinking the two communities.
