Ewulu Indigene Raises Alarm Over Arrest Of Community Members

BY AWELE OGBOGU

A concerned indigene of Ewulu in Aniocha South Local Government Area of Delta State, Mr. Augustine Igbadi, has raised the  alarm over the arrest and detention of some members of the community by an unidentified security outfit about a fortnight ago.

Igbadi, speaking to our correspondent on the latest situation in the embattled community, said they suspected that the team came from Ibusa, Oshimili North Local Government Area of the state where a suspect in a previous murder in Ewulu lives.

He said members of the security outfit whisked away two indigenes of the community, Mr. Udoka Smiling Okocha and Okonji Victor without an explanation.

Igbadi said “one of the suspects in the murder of a youth in Ewulu petitioned the security outfit and they quickly came down to Ewulu to make the arrests, whereas the petitioner has never been sought by the police. What is really happening?, he queried.

He disclosed that a few days ago, some human rights activists visited Ewulu on a fact-finding mission and expressed displeasure with the spate of indiscriminate land sales, adding that “their earnest desire is to see justice take its full course over the murder of a young man in Ewulu some months ago.”
