RETIRED soldiers who served during the Nigerian Civil War, under the umbrella of the Veteran Farmers Association Multipurpose Cooperative Society Limited, have raised concerns on alleged fraudulent activities involving the disbursement of funds amounting to N88 billion.
In a statement jointly signed by the chairman of the association, Major Charles Okechukwu (rtd) and three others, the war veterans alerted the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on a case of alleged fraudulent act.
Reacting to an earlier publication (not in The Pointer), the veterans recalled that in a meeting held on May 1, 2024, a vote of no confidence was passed on one Dr Samuel Ukaegbu and Commander Eneobong Asuquo on all matters relating to the disbursement of the ECOWAS Consent Judgment Funds (N88bn).
They further recalled that a committee to oversee the implementation the resolution was constituted with Major Charles Okechukwu as Chairman, Susan Nwogbo as Secretary, Osakwe Ashikodi as Treasurer, and Sam Ekechukwu as Financial Secretary and Enebong Asuquo as Director. Other members of the resolution implementation committee are Arthur Richards and Ifeanyichukwu Okeke while Josephat Ngananga as ex-officio.
‘’How the summersault witnessed in the (alleged) publication in which Chief Ifeanyichukwu Okeke, who was a member in status as of May 1, transformed into a caucus committee chairman/national leader in the publication of August 7. 2024 which was done without the consent of the national chairman, Major Charles Okechukwu, the director/treasurer, Osakwe Ashikodi and the Board of Trustees (BoT)?
‘’This is a travesty of the protocols of administration, strategic management , implementation, control and execution as set out in the communique empowering the new order in pursuit of the disbursement of the N88bn consent judgment’’ they said. They continued ‘’it has become pertinent for the BoT to wade in, especially to forestall any foreseen and unforeseen hideous agenda as with Dr Emeka Ukaegbu and Commander Enobong Asuquo which is exactly the line being toed by the interim secretary, Princess Susan Nwogbo and Chief Ifeanyichukwu Okeke and other faceless persons among the signatories to the said publication.
