Excitement, Celebration As Onyemaechi Regains Freedom

The Delta State Police Command, yesterday, confirmed the release of the abducted former member of the House of Representatives and immediate past Commissioner for Technical Education, Hon. Joan Onyemaechi.

Onyemaechi was abducted on Tuesday, July 30 2024, in her church off the Delta Broadcasting Service (DBS) Road in Asaba, the Delta State capital, after gunmen killed her police orderly and driver.

However, residents of Asaba and environs were overwhelmed with joy as the news of her release filtered into the city.

Various platforms of the social media were also busy as netizens thank God for her safe return.

Meanwhile, confirming Onyemaechi’s release to journalists, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Bright Edafe said she was released on Friday night. He said, “Yes, she was released last night”

Our correspondent reached a close family source who preferred anonymity to further confirm the information. Although the source did not confirm if any ransom was paid.
