THE Delta State Commissioner for Secondary Education, Mrs. Rose Ezewu, has called for the urgent need of Education Reform that aligns with the realities of a rapidly changing global economy and environmental challenges in the country.
She made this know n during the official inauguration of the 3rd Annual International Conference of the School of Secondary Education (Technical), held at the Federal College of Education (Technical) in Asaba.
According to Ezewu, the global economy is being reshaped by technological advances and shifting labour demands, emphasising that education must adapt to prepare students for this evolving landscape by fostering technical skills alongside soft skills such as critical thinking, creativity, and adaptability.
She applauded the School for the theme choice “Educational Training Response to Global Economic Challenges: Implication for Sustainable Development”, acknowledging the critical role of education in preparing individuals not only for the workforce but also in fostering sustainable development. While Addressing attendees, Ezewu highlighted the urgent need for an educational approach that aligns with the realities of a rapidly changing global economy and environmental challenges. “As we equip individuals with relevant skills, we not only prepare them for future jobs but also ensure they can adapt throughout their careers,” she said, underscoring the importance of integrating sustainability into educational curricula to support a resilient, future-ready workforce.
She called on stakeholders for a continuous commitment to educational reform, with the need of an improved economy and a supporting future for the children.
Highlight of the event was the attendance of the Provost of Federal College of Education (Technical) Asaba, the Honourable Commissioner for Primary Education, the Dean of the School of Secondary Education (Technical), as well as professors, doctors, and other distinguished guests.
