Ezewu Commends High Turnout as Schools Resume For 2023/2024 Academic Session

The Delta State Commissioner for Secondary Education, Mrs. Rose Ezewu has expressed satisfaction with the high turnout of students and teachers as private and public schools resumed across the State for the 2023/2024 academic session.

She gave the commendation during her tour of various secondary schools in Oshimili North -Omu Boys School; Mixed Secondary School, Girls Grammar School; St. Thomas Secondary School, all in Ibusa; Okpanam Comprehensive High School, and Oruchi Secondary School, Okpanam, amongst others.

Mrs. Ezewu, who was represented by the Deputy Director, Schools, Mrs Justina Ishaka lauded the commitment displayed by both students and teachers on the first day of resumption. According to the Commissioner, the large attendance was a positive indication of the readiness of the education sector in Delta State to kick off the new academic year. She noted that despite some initial concerns over potential delays in reopening, the smooth resumption across all schools was a testament to the efforts made by the government and school administrators to ensure a seamless transition into the new term.

Mrs. Ezewu stressed the importance of early attendance, highlighting that it sets the tone for academic success. She urged both teachers and students to maintain the momentum and work together toward achieving academic excellence in the 2023/2024 session.

“Education is the foundation of a brighter future for our state and country. I am pleased with the turnout we are seeing today, and I encourage everyone to continue working hard and staying focused,” she remarked.

Parents and guardians were also commended for their cooperation in ensuring that their wards returned to school on time. Mrs. Ezewu assured that the state government would continue to prioritize education by improving infrastructure, providing necessary resources, and creating a conducive learning environment for all students.

The Commissioner’s remarks were met with optimism from school principals, who shared their enthusiasm for the new session and expressed confidence in achieving better academic outcomes

In the same light our correspondent reported that some schools in Oshimili South and North were under lock and key, including West End Mixed Secondary Schools, Unity Secondary School, Anglican Girls Grammar School (AGGS), and Government Model School.

Meanwhile, Public and private schools across the Ika South Local Government Area of the State have joined their counterparts to resume for first term session.

Our Correspondent reported that Schools visited show that the turn out by pupils and students was impressive as teaching and learning has begun.

The schools visited include: God First Infant Academy, Shammah Model School, Ime Obi Secondary School, Alisimie mixed secondary school, among others. In all the schools visited, teachers were on ground to continue their daily teaching as scheduled in the Ministry of Education curriculum. Some of the parents in an interview revealed the stress they went through in bringing their children and wards to school as cost of transport has increased due to the recent increment in petrol price.

Some of the teachers, who spoke to our correspondent, said that they were happy to return toduty after the long holiday. They welcome the students back to school and urged them to continue to showcase good moral conduct.

They, however, decied the high cost of transportation and appealed to President Bola Tinubu to use his good offices to reduce the cost of petrol as the masses were suffering due to the removal of petroleum subsidy.
