Ezewu Pledges To Support WAEC To Achieve Goal In Education Devt

The Delta State Commissioner for Secondary Education, Mrs Rose Ezewu has pledged the support of her Ministry to the West African Examination Council (WAEC) in achieving a common goal for every child in the state.

Ezewu said this in Asaba while declaring open the 2024 WAEC Council State Committee meeting.

The secondary education commissioner said that the administration of Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori was committed to building a state that works for all, especially in the education sector.

She noted that the Council meeting was an annual forum that avails stakeholders the opportunity to review the conduct of the last West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

Ezewu explained that the terms and references of the meeting were to advise the National Committee on any matter on which advice may be sought and to make recommendations where necessary for improved and sustainable development.

The commissioner urged the council to continue in her collaboration with the ministry in the selection and appointment of credible supervisors for the supervision of its examination as well as ensure that only eligible candidates in the Senior Secondary School (SS3) were allowed to register for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination.

Earlier, the Director of Examinations, Mrs. Clementina Ojumah commended the Council for the smooth conduct and quick release of results, stressing that the Council’s continued synergy with the Ministry over the years had yielded good results.

In her remarks, the Director of Human Resource Management, WAEC, Lagos, Mrs. Genevieve Chukwudi-Nwoko said that the Council meeting was being held simultaneously across Nigeria, emphasizing that the meeting was to discuss the activities of WAEC regarding the conduct of their examination and other activities that stakeholders needed to be abreast with.

She lauded the Delta State Government for its proactive measures in tackling examination malpractice and reminded stakeholders to be objective, especially in handling issues concerning examination.
