FARMERS in Ukwuani Local Government Area of Delta State, are rejoicing over the impact of the Delta Community Action for Resilience and Economic Stimulus (D-CARES) programme in the area.
This initiative, spearheaded by the state Governor, Rt Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has provided significant support to farmers, enabling them to revive their agricultural businesses.
Ukwuani, an agrarian community where youths and women have a passion for farming, revealed that COVID-19 had devastating effects on them. However, the Fadama D-CARES programme became a lifeline for them and their families.
One Mrs. Patience Ishie from Umutu FCA said, “the COVID-19 lockdown made me abandon my poultry, and I was unable to start again due to lack of money. But when DCARES Fadama brought free fish feeds and a pack of day-old chickens with medications, that motivated me to go back to farming. I have restocked my farm with new birds.”
It was the same story for Eke Uche and FideliaEzebor in the Umutu community. At Ezionum FCA, Madukelum Freedom, Nwanua Mavis, and Afodigbue Monday revealed separately the significance of the farm inputs given to them, which had enabled them to provide food for their families and increase their production levels.
According to Afodigbue, “I have been struggling to feed my family and sustain my farm, but the Fadama D-CARES program revived my farm business. Thank you, Fadama, thank you, Governor Sheriff.”
Again, Oloye Eze from Eziokpor FCA, said, “I have not only restocked my farm but have also reinvested part of my profits back into my business.” Favour Ozuem said, “Thank you, Ukodo Governor, for remembering farmers with free farm inputs.” Ozuem Humphrey added that the various capacity training organized for them helped them use the inputs properly.
