THE Federal Government has introduced a grond-breaking reform to the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) posting system, allowing corps members to be deployed to private organisations, including banks, oil companies, and other industry sectors aligned with their fields of study.
This policy shift, effective from the 2024 Batch C Orientation Course commencing on 27th November, marks a significant departure from traditional deployment practices. The initiative is designed to foster skill acquisition and improve employability among Nigerian graduates.
The move is in line with President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to tackling youth unemployment and creating pathways for specialised training in relevant industries. By integrating corps members into private-sector organisations, the government aims to bridge the gap between academic knowledge and practical industry experience, equipping young Nigerians with critical skills for the modern workforce.
This development is expected to expand opportunities for corps members, enabling them to gain hands-on exposure in competitive industries and enhancing their prospects in the job market.
The NYSC Directorate has assured that the new system will be implemented with fairness and transparency, ensuring placements that match the qualifications and career aspirations of corps members. Stakeholders across various sectors have applauded the initiative, viewing it as a step towards addressing unemployment and preparing the nation’s youth for a rapidly evolving global economy.
