Flood: Boko Haram Leaders May Have Escaped Prison ––Gov Zulum

The Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum has expressed worry that some Boko Haram leaders might have escaped from prison during the heavy flooding in Maiduguri, the state capital. He affirmed this during an interview with journalists when he was asked if he was worried that some Boko Haram leaders might have escaped due to the flooding.

Recall that Maiduguri and some neighbouring towns were submerged by flood caused by the overflow of the Ngadda River.

Properties worth millions of naira and lives have been lost due to the heavy flooding.

There were also reports that some prison inmates were evacuated and that some of them escaped due to the flooding.

Zulum said in the interview, “I’m worried, yes, I’m seriously worried. But you also have to bear in mind that the Borno State Government has established what we call the Borno Model of Rehabilitation which has allowed many insurgents to repent.

“Within the last two years, over 200,000 Boko Haram members and their families have repented and I think, this has also yielded positive results in ensuring the return of peace and stability to Borno State.” enied education.

The state commandant condemned the act of subjecting the young girl to such treatment, describing it as barbaric, callous and heinous. He warned parents to desist from such acts, under whatever excuse or guise as the agency of government would not relent in apprehending offenders.

The commandant said the girl has been handed over to Gender-Based Violence Shelter Home for care and rehabilitation, while the suspects will be handed over to the appropriate prosecuting agency for necessary action.
