It has been observed that ongoing efforts by the Delta State Government to mitigate perennial flooding are yielding desired results. In affected parts of Effurun, headquarters of Uvwie Local Government Area, following last Sunday’s downpour, residents were delighted to step into the streets dry and free of water.
Our correspondent reports that Refinery road and Sokoh Estate road were free of water after the torrential rainfall. Residents of Sokoh Estate, therefore expressed appreciation to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for the massive flood control measures.
A resident, Clement Onosere expressed delight, saying that “after last Sunday’s downpour, the road was free of water.” He recounted that prior to the construction of the drainage systems, the road was usually flooded, severely disrupting traffic.
Onosere said the next step would be to fix the road, particularly from the Airport road to Okubor Junction. A resident of Okubor, Fedelix Ogba said it is a vital link between Sokoh Estate road and Effurun/Sapele road.
Ogba praised Governor Oborevwori for significantly raising the bar in infrastructural development in Effurun, adding that they have heard of similar developmental strides across Delta State. “The people of Uvwie never had it so good”, he enthused.
