PROPERTY and farm crops valued at several millions of naira were recently destroyed by flood at Isheagu community.
Although the flood is gradually receding, areas most affected included the satellite camps of the community.
Former President of Isheagu Development Union (IDU), Chief Stephen Uwafili when contacted, revealed that Atuakpai, Onu-Iyi, Okor-Ofiaja, Obi-Kwele, Nzali and Magi were worse-hit.
He disclosed that both the State Emergency Relief Agency (SEMA) and the National Emergency Relief Agency (NEMA) both have visited the community for an on-the-spot assessment.
According to Uwafili, several buildings, especially at Onu-Iyi were not spared, as well as numerous farm crops in many areas.
He said that while the actual estimate of the damage are not yet available, they expected the agencies to assess all the affected camps due to the severity of the flooding.
Uwafili hinted that the affected satellite towns are populated by people from Isheagu community and fishermen from the Ijaw axis of the state.
He said the affected satellite communities are located in low and marshy lands, adding that the victims were compelled to desert their homes as a result of the flooding.
Uwafili who called on the relevant government agencies to come to the aid of the community, disclosed that the victims have lost all they had to the unfortunate incident.
“We were happy that both the state and federal government responded to the situation timely. We would also be happy if their visitation will turn to immediate relief for victims.
“The victims of the flooding lost all they had in life. Property, farm crops and much more were lost to the unfortunate incident and has left the people desolate.
“The agencies concerned should quickly come to the aid of the affected people so as to alleviate their sufferings” Uwafili appealed.
