In a statement, yesterday, in Asaba, the EFI boss expressed concern over “the lackadaisical attitude of some parents towards their children’s safety whenever it is raining”, while she called for a change of attitude.

She lamented that many children have been swept away by raging floods, saying the time had come for parents to be more careful about their children/wards when it is raining.

“Parents should keep their children indoors whenever it is raining as there are reports of floods sweeping children away.

Children might not be aware of the fast moving water and decide to walk on them for whatever reasons and this is why as parents, we must be vigilant and ensure that our children are indoors whenever the weather is changing. We cannot afford to have our children washed away by floods”.

“There was an incident along Okpanam Road in Asaba, the state capital, where  a heavy downpour almost swept a 10 year old child away. The erscuer almost lost his life in the process until someone came to both their rescue”.

The Executive Director of EFI also urged parents to adhere to flood warnings.
