The Director-General of the Delta State Directorate of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Chief Daniel Ivwighren has warned contractors selected for the SDGs projects across the state to follow the laid down specifications in line with the MORE Agenda of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s administration.
Ivwighren handed down the warning in his office in Asaba during the presentation of contract award letters to the contractors, charging them to execute quality projects that would endure the test of time.
He advised them to abstain from shortcuts in the execution of the projects that were awarded to them, adding that on no account should they compromise what was in the Bill of Qualities (BOQ).
While congratulating the contractors for their selection, Ivwighren said they were qualified to carry out the projects, hence their selection, even as he warned the project supervisors not to take sides but to do the correct thing by supervising the jobs correctly without fear or favour.
Ivwighren, urged them not to bribe any staff of the Directorate to compromise standards, stressing that he would carry out routine supervision to evaluate the quality of the jobs they would be carrying out. Earlier, the Director of Administration in the Directorate, Mr Karo Emeyese said that the event was designed to issue award letters to contractors and congratulated them.
Emeyese also informed them that the delay in issuing the award letters was a result of wrong documents that were submitted by the contractors.
In an interview with newsmen, some of the contractors including Julius Obelikpeyah from Warri South Local Government Area and Jude Ikediashi of Bedison Soluticn explained that the process that led to their selection and the presentation of contract award letters was transparent and commended the state government for finding them worthy to be selected.
They promised to deliver their projects in line with specifications and ensure that quality was achieved, emphasizing that Oborevwori’s desire for meaningful development in the state was a welcome development.
Obelikpeyah particularly lauded the Governor for his method of payment without delays to contractors whose jobs had been certified, just as he said the developmental initiative would play a pivotal role for him in 2027.
